After a grueling, exhausting, never-ending week, my exercise ball challenge is finally complete. OK, maybe it wasn’t that brutal.
Surprisingly, after the first couple days of groaning when seeing my comfortable office chair shoved to the side and a balance ball in place of it in my cube, I not only got used to it, but I kind of enjoyed it as well. I can’t quite say that I have the six-pack to prove it, but I definitely notice the difference it has made.
Benefits: My posture has improved unbelievably, and this isn’t an exaggeration. I haven’t sat up this straight since…well, ever. Even my coworker Colin noted it, and he doesn’t notice anything.
Negatives: My lower back was definitely sore for the first few days, but that dissipated as my body became used to sitting properly. Also, each time I move or even just shift, the entire office knows because this ball makes an obnoxious noise. Alongside sitting up straight, I learned to sit still as well.
Tips: If you try this, and I wholeheartedly urge you to, make sure you stretch your lower back at the end of each day, especially in the beginning. Even a simple forward fold will suffice. Other than that, fight through the pain! It’s challenging at first, but maybe you’ll follow my lead and replace the office chair for good.
Now that I’ve successfully completed my task, I’m open for torturous challenges to extend to Colin.
