Green Scene: Unique Ways to Use a Bicycle

Aside from its eco-friendliness, bicycling is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get in shape. If you’re looking for some extra motivation to invest in a bike, here’s four ways to get extra use out of a velocipede.

1. Transform your bike into your very own birdfeeder.

Treat your feathered friends to a seedy snack. Lay your bike on its side, slather it with peanut butter and sprinkle seeds on top. Then sit back and watch the birds flock to your trendy bike-shaped birdfeeder. You’re a natural!

2. Turn it upside down and “play” the spokes like a harp.

What better way to woo your sweetheart than with a bizarre romantic gesture? Turn your bike upside down, preferably under your darling’s bedroom window. Charm your beloved with an original rendition of “I’ve Put a Spell on You” strummed on the bike spokes. Who wouldn’t be smitten?

3. Decorate your bike to seamlessly crash a parade.

When you’re feeling festive, decorate your bike with crepe paper and flowers. Now head toward the nearest neighborhood parade and wait for the right moment to sneak into the procession. You’re riding your very own float! Wave to the people and smile, because you’re a superstar!

4. Use it to pull a cylinder lawn mower.

Ditch the motorized lawnmower and opt for one of those old-school cylinder mowers. Attach it to the back of your bike with a chain or rope, and pedal through your yard for a perfectly manicured lawn. Don’t worry about all the neighbors gawking at you—they’re just jealous.
